About the memorial: Granite Pillar with four faces. Each face is carved with four inset ogee arches. The inscriptions are on tablets within the arches. Replica of original memorial. It has been recently renovated & cleaned.. The Advie War Memorial was originally sited beside the A95, about 1 mile south of Tormore Distillery, where over the years it repeatedly sustained damage from road vehicles. In 2006, it was hit by a lorry and for safety reasons the upper portions were completely dismantled pending repair or replacement- see WMO/261699. The damage was so significant that it was decided that the appropriate course of action was to have a new memorial sculpted and erected on a new site adjacent to Advie Public Hall. At that time, the local community expressed an overwhelming desire that the components of the old memorial be retained and taken to local Advie Cemetery. To date (September 2013), the dismantled components still lie there. The new War memorial was unveiled on 9 November 2008 Comparing the 1990s photograph with the more recent one shows an improved condition
