About the memorial: A wooden memorial containing names and inscriptions.A solid oak memorial with intricate carvings including grim beasts a sheathed sword at either side of the three panels of the war dead. At the top of memorial is a crown with peacocks and grape vines on either side. Memorial also contains the rose, the thistle and the shamrock. The memorial was originally sited in The Union Bank of Scotland in Ingram St but the head office moved to its present site in 1927. The Union Bank of Scotland merged with the Bank of Scotland in 1955.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
