Inscription on plinth begins 'To the Glory of God ...' and commemorates the men of Ferryhill who died in the Great War, 1914-1918, with names inscribed on all other sides; additional inscription refers to second World War 1939-1945, and additional names are inscribed. 'Pass not this stone in sorrow but in pride/And may ye live as nobly as they died' inscribed on front plinth
