About the memorial: Classic obelisk on square plinth.In 2015, the War Memorial Trust assisted South Ayrshire Council with restoration of this memorial. It was professionally cleaned, lime mortar pointing works were carried out to the whole memorial, stone work repaired and all bronze plaques restored. Smart water was also applied. An article in the Sunday Post, February 1st 1920, refers to the design for the obelisk being submitted to the Girvan War Memorial Committee by architect James Archibald Morris, A.R.S.A. of Ayr. Further, it states the expected costs raised by subscription to be estimated at £2,0000
