About the memorial: The inscription is under the Names tab.Additional inscriptions were added after WW2. The niche was moved to the north wall when the Church was remodelled. Source – Tonbridge Free Press of 27 January 1922. “The niche that contains the book of Remembrance is a very artistic conception. It is in the south wall and is 30 inches wide by 20 inches high. Its effect is that of a proscenium in miniature, and suggests the entrance to a temple. The roof or vaulting is supported by four graceful and slender columns attached to the back of the niche. Between these columns and forming the middle back of the niche, are three panels on which is carved “Our Glorious Dead.” A column is placed each side of the opening, or niche, which is spanned by a cusped arch, with horizontal hood moulding above. Two brackets support the projecting moulded sill upon which the board supporting the book rests. The whole is wrought in the same sandstone as the columns in the aisle. It is a piece of work which will ever rebound to the credit of the designer, Mr J. W. Little.”
