About the memorial: The memorial, on Main Road, is next to the excellent Memorial Park, and is enclosed in a purpose-built, gated, flower garden, with some bench seats. It consists of a sandstone block on a square, stepped plinth. There are 4 inscription plaques with fine raised black lettering naming the Ridgeway Fallen from WW1 on the main block, and a similar plaque on the plinth naming the fallen of WW2. Some 30 years ago the memorial was moved from its original site in the gardens of nearby Kent House to its present position. The lettering and plaques are good, but the plinth requires some attention and the gardens are slightly neglected and becoming overgrown. A discarded, broken village notice board has been dumped in the corner behind the gates, which are inscribed R.W.M. Originally a brass sundial on a square sandstone pedestal and four stepped base within a circular paved area. The four faces of the pedestal had oblong recesses each bearing a brass plaque with the inscriptions. At some time a further plaque was added to the 6 o'clock face of the top step for WW2 and subsequently the memorial was moved to a nearby memorial garden. At a later date the sundial and plaques were stolen. The plaques were replaced by granite tablets but nothing remains of the sundial
