About the memorial: Memorial stands at the main north-east entrance to park. Cdr Francis H H Goodhart held the DSO and Russian St George's Cross. In 1916 he was recalled and given command of the new K14, then building. He had commanded E8 since prior to the outbreak of war as part of the 8th flotilla based on the Maidstone at Harwich. He had also previously commanded C6 and D3. Keen to learn about the intricacies of his new command, he went to sea on sister K13 and was on board the day she sank in the Gareloch on 29 Jan 1917 at 1500 hours Goodhart lost his life the following day whilst attempting an escape to assist the rescuers in their efforts to save her crew. For this he was awarded by the King a posthumous Albert Medal in Gold, gazetted on 29 Apr 1918, for gallantry in saving life at sea. Goodhart was recovered on 1 Feb and on the 6th was buried at Faslane Cemetery.
