TO THE MEMORY OF/THOSE MEMBERS OF THE/ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT COMPANY LIMITED/WHO TO THE GLORY OF GOD/AND IN HONOURABLE SERVICE/TO THEIR KING & COUNTRY/SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES DURING/THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918/[21 names]; To the memory of / those members of / A.E.C. Ltd. / who to the glory of God / and in honourable service / to their King & country / sacrificed their lives during / the World War 1939 - 1945/[26 names]; The interpretation board- The Memorial Plaque sited on the left side of this/notice was almost certainly located in the/AEC vehicle factory at Walthamstow, London E17,/where the named employees who died in the Great/War (retrospectively named World War 1) would have/worked.// In 1925, however, AEC purchased a 59 acre site from/the Earl of Jersey at Southall, Middlesex for £25,000./ That site bounded by Windmill Lane, the Great/Western Railway main line to Bristol and a branch line from Southall to Brentford, was used to accommodate/a new vehicle factory, replacing the Walthamstow/plant. The Memorial Plaque then travelled across/ London, to the new premises, as did many of the/Company's workers.// The matching second plaque, on the right, was then/produced to remember AEC's employees who were/killed during World War 2.// The Southall factory was closed in 1979 and/subsequently demolished. Someone had the foresight/to remove the Memorial Plaques, which were then/placed in a nearby social club, until offered to and/accepted by the Museum in 2013.
