About the memorial: Glenavy war memorial is situated at the western edge of the village, at the junction of Main Street and the Crumlin and Belfast Roads. This is one of a number of public war memorials for which it has proven impossible to obtain any definite unveiling or dedication dates. In 1919 a group of residents approached the Antrim Rural District Council requesting the erection of a war memorial. It was mentioned in a street directory in 1920. There appears to be no further information until a passing reference to its existence in 1930.
