Status: On subsequent site(s)
Type: Non freestanding
Location: External
Setting: Roadside
Description: Board/Plaque/ Tablet
Materials:
  • Metal Brass
Lettering: Inscribed on a plaque
Conflicts:
  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: An Organ with an associated plaque was originally in the Methodist Chapel, now closed. The plaque has been moved and embedded in the new memorial cairn (WMO259441) at the junction of Turfy Hill and Gayle Lane. The former Chapel is now a private dwelling. See the NPOR reference regarding the organ- that refers to an organ relocated to Hawes from Gateshead in 1975, so it is unclear whether this plaque refers to an earlier post WW1 organ which was replaced in 1975 or to this 1975 installation.
