About the memorial: Canadian Armed Forces: A rectangular concrete pillar on a three-stepped base, with a RAF badge at the top, airscrew blades from a Halifax bomber on three sides and an inscribed plaque on the base. The memorial, dedicated in 1979, commemorates the 60th anniversary of the formation of the RAF, the 30th anniversary of the Frinton and Walton RAFA, and to the crew of the Halifax bomber which crashed in the Naze on the night of 5/6 March1945 on its return from an operational mission. The airscrew blades were recovered in 1979 by officers and cadets of the Colchester and Clacton ATC.

THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED IN 1979 BY THE FRINTON AND WALTON RAFA TO COMMEMORATE THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RAF FORMATION AND THE 30TH ANNINVERSARY OF THE FORMATION OF THIS BRANCH.
