About the memorial: Standing outside the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin, the memorial is to the men of Bury who died in both 20th century world wars. It is a cross with a curved wall around the back of the cross. The inscription is on the base of the cross, with further inscriptions at each end of the wall - Pro Rege and Pro Patria. A frieze set into the wall depicts scenes of battle and its aftermath. Listed Grade II*, list entry number 1444845.
