About the memorial: The War Memorial was erected in 1948. It is made from stone taken from the bombed House of Commons. The stone was obtained by Colonel Leonard Ropner MP of Thorpe Perrow, the local estate of which Snape Village was at one time part of. Col Ropner served in WW2. It was erected in conjunction with 6 flowering cherry trees, donated from the Thorp Perrow Arboretum that were planted on the adjacent village green to commemorate the 6 people from Snape who had died in WW2.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
