About the memorial: The Memorial is well maintained, with what looks like a brown stain panels with names impressed. The panels were made locally by Edward Overy in what was described at the time as imperishable earthenware. The stone came from Waywath and again was designed, chiselled and erected by local people. When completed the memorial was actually located in Danby parish rather than Commondale as the boundary line between the two parishes ran through the village, The memorial stands on a grass area in the centre of Commondale village. It was "Dressed and erected by J. Ford of Castleton and designed by W. H. Earl of Danby".
