About the memorial: Midsummer Hill (10.5 hectares) was given to the National Trust in 1923 by the Rev. and Mrs H. L. Somers Cocks, in memory of their son, Reginald, who was killed in the First World War. Note that a commemorative stone that was on the summit is now in the churchyard of St John the Baptist Church in Eastnor. He is also commemorated in the church by a window (WMO 299558) and a screen (WMO 299559).

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

This Camp/ of 30 acres was given to the National Trust/ in memory of/ Capt Reginald Somers Cocks MC/ who was killed in action at the Ypres Salient/ on April 24th 1918 aged 23 years/ Thou who hath given me eyes to see/ and love this sight so far/ give me heart to find out thee/ and record thee everywhere
