About the memorial: The memorial is a plaque bearing the city crest listing the names, service, regiment and former department of Carlisle Corporation employees who were killed in action in the second world war. There are 23 names on the memorial. Unveiled 8 November 1947 by Councillor H Greenop JP, Mayor. In the vestibule of the Town Hall and moved to the new Civic Centre when it was built, where it was on the wall just inside the main entrance. The Civic Centre was substantially refurbished in 2020 to 2021. It is now on the inside (or down hill) face of the left hand wall as you walk in, which is between reception and the waiting area, in a sort of short corridor. It is not obvious from either reception or the waiting area, but is clearly looked after. I am pleased to see that it has been retained here, and not consigned to the city museum. City Council staff were very helpful in locating it for me in it's new location.
