About the memorial: Wooden screen, altar and reredos providing a chapel dedicated to the Sherwood Foresters. There are numerous other memorials to members of the Sherwood Foresters within the chapel. The reredos is panelled. Lettering is in gold. Regimental badges for the 1/8 and 2/8 Battalions are shown on the two outer panels.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

Reredos - To our glorious dead.Left hand side - 1/8 Battalion badge. These died in war that we in peace might live. They gave their best so we our best should give. Right hand side - 2/8 Battalion badge. Not for themselves, for justice, freedom, right, they fought and bid us forward to the fight. Their name liveth for evermore. Screen - 1914 - 1918 This screen together with the altar and reredos of the chapel were erected by the officers, warrant officers, non commissioned officers and men of the 1/8th and 2/8th Battalions The Sherwood Foresters in memory of their comrades, officers and men who fell in the Great War, in number 732.
