About the memorial: A 10 light stained glass window with 2 rows of 5 lights. The top 5 lights depict Christ amidst a set of angelic figures representing St Matthew, St Mark, St Luke & St John.plus a person in prayer on each side with symbolic images in the tracery. The lower 5 lights depict St George slaying the Dragon with St Peter & St Paul on either side plus badges representing the City of London and the Bishop of London. Below are images of the City including St Paul's Cathedral, and dedicatory text in the centre light. In the top tracery a set of badges of the ARP,, RAF, Royal Artillery, Auxiliary Fire Service. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- City of London East Walk: In the top tracery are images of four of the “Instruments of Christ’s Passion”. The cockerel that crowed after Peter’s 3rd denial of Jesus: the money bag containing 30 pieces of silver the price of Judas’ betrayal: the lantern carried by the soldiers at the betrayal & the ladder used to remove Christ’s body from the cross. Around the picture of the risen Christ are the symbols linked to the four apostles. St Matthew by the human angel: St Mark by the lion: St Luke by the Ox and St John by the eagle. Beneath this other biblical symbols, a pot of lilies representing chastity and linked to Mary and the lamb holding a cross reflecting the several references in the Bible’s Book of Revelation . The lower part shows St George killing the dragon (good overcoming evil) together with the tracery showing coats of arms of the armed forces involved. Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
