About the memorial: A white tablet with black lettering on a black backplate. The white tablet has a triangular pediment carved with a sheathed sword and wreath. The black backplate has a curved base accommodating a white crest.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF ARTHUR WILLIAM GODFREY SECOND SON OF JOHN AND AUGUSTA ISABELLA GODFREY OF BROOKE HOUSE IN THIS PARISH. BORN AT ST HELIERS JERSEY JAN 19TH 1829. ENTERED 2ND BATTALION RIFLE BRIGADE AS 2ND LIEUT. DEC 30TH 1845. FROM HM COLLEGE SANDHURST SERVED IN NOVA SCOTIA AND LOWER CANADA AND AS LIEUT 1ST BATT. IN THE KAFIR WAR OF 1852-53 FOR WHICH HE OBTAINED THE MEDAL. SERVED ALSO WITH DISTINCTION IN THE CRIMEA AND GAINED MEDAL AND THREE CLASPS FOR ALMA, BALACLAVA, INKERMAN. DIED ON THE 27TH NOV 1854 OF CHOLERA IN CAMP BEFORE SEBASTOPOL. HIS BROTHER OFFICERS IN AFFECTIONATE COMEMORATION OF HIS WORTH AND GALLANTRY ERECTED A STONE OVER HIS GRAVE ON CATHCOMB HIOLL. THE RIGHTEOUS HATH HOPE IN DEATH. THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED BY THOSE WHOM ALONE HIS VALUE AND ENDEARING QUALITIES WERE FULLY KNOWN
