About the memorial: Limestone structure in the shape of a rectangular coffin with dedicatory Bronze Plaques on each side. Carved on the top of the front face is a cap badge with crossed flags above it. On the rear face are carved Corporation of Bolton arms. It is a cenotaph in a public park erected to commemorate the fallen in the Great War of the 5th Bn the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. At a later date a plaque was added to the cenotaph remembering the dead of the second world war. The names and rank of the Great War dead are inscribed on plaques attached to the cenotaph. Included are the names of six men of 1st Battalion L.N.L. who were attached to the 5th Battalion. The recorded names of the Battalion's dead in the Great War total 1017.
