  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: Addition to gravestone - 35 Names On 2 April 1916 there was a massive explosion at the Faversham Gunpowder Works. The estimate of the total number of men and boys killed from this and the follow up explosions varies. Some bodies were never found. (As this was a Sunday there were no women at the Works.) Many were buried in a mass grave in Love Lane Cemetery. A separate memorial stone lists the names of 35 people buried elsewhere. A Cross on the grave commemorates all those killed.
