About the memorial: The memorial is not in the village of Holywood on the A76 but is to be found by turning off the A76 to the east at New Bridge, a few miles north of Dumfries. It is at the entrance of the cemetery, by the former church- closed in 2011 and sold into secular use. A two steps base to pink granite tapered plinth with obelisk. The inscription is carved in black and names are on the sides of plinth. The obelisk is decorated with crossed flags and laurel leaves. A Latin phrase 'Pro Patria' is written in the middle of the crossed flags.
