About the memorial: A two steps stone platforms with two square bases, square tapering plinth and a sculpture on top. The figure of solider is standing with rifles, facing the side where the inscription is on the plinth, which describing the year of the war and names, details of erection and a quotation where at the bottom square base. There is another list of name at the back of the plinth, giving the details of the year of war and a scripture at the bottom square base. Lettering is raised roman caps san serif. This memorial was ordered on 2/5/1920 by Mr Thomas Gracie, Church St Wanlockhead,. in Log Book No 3005 and erected 15/7/1920 by Beattie & Co Carlisle, cost £332.7/-. As a model for the figure Beattie obtained the services of a sergeant belonging to the Border Regiment who was based in Carlisle Castle. Mr. McConnel of Eliock unveiled the Memorial. The Scotsman, 25 September 1920. WAR MEMORIALS WANLOCKHEAD.— The war memorial was unveiled by Mr J. I. McConnel, the Rev. C. P. Blair, and the Rev. G. G. Ramage, Mr W. G. Wilson, chairman of the War Memorial Committee; and Mr T. Gracie, secretary of the War Memorial Committee. The monument takes the form of a soldier in fighting order with arms reversed. The figure is 6 feet high, cut in marble, and is supported by a column of granite, on the face of which are cut the names of the sixteen natives who made the supreme sacrifice.
