About the memorial: At the well attended Parish Church Annual Meeting in April 1919 in Well it was resolved as follows ' To place a Brass plate to the memory of the fallen men on the Snape side of Well Church bearing the names of the fallen of Snape and to procure a wheeled Bier and carriage for the Parish use. The cost of the said Bier was £28 and the same had already been purchased. Quote from the Parish Church Records. At the time the Church in Well was the Parish Church for the two villages of Well and Snape which were about 2 miles apart by road. The graveyard was in Well and traditionally coffins for those who died in Snape were brought by road on a farm cart for burial.
