About the memorial: It is designed in a Celtic cross form of Peterhead granite.Broad tapered stone block plinth surmounted by two stepped pedestal and celtic/wheel cross. Inscription in lead lettering on the front face of the memorial. Celtic knotwork design carved on the front face of the cross. The memorial has inscriptions of 11 names for WW1 and 7 names for WW2. The memorial was sculpted and erected by D & A Davidson of Academy Street, Inverness. It was unveiled on Friday 15 April 1921 by Mrs MacInnes of the Kings Arms Hotel, whose only son had fallen in France. The original Memorial was severely damaged when struck by lightning and is partly built into the plinth of the replacement. This may explain why the names for WW2 appear on a panel above those for WW1. Another theory is that the memorial was raised up onto a new base after WW2. "The Lump" is a hillock at the east end of the village. In 2014 2 new metal seats were added beside the memorial- 1 for each war
