About the memorial: Stone wheel cross situated in the open, with stone plinths at the base. Surrounded by stone block border with stone shillies. Brass plaques attached to the plinths and shaft of the cross. Completely surrounded by grassed area. Within County Hall grounds. Christchurch itself long since demolished. As of October 2021 all access to the memorial is sealed off, and signage sends you round in circles. There is no obvious reason why this should be so.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

Incised into the brass plaques and painted. At the top, on a separate plaque: For God. For King. For Country. In remembrance of those whose names are inscribed below. At the bottom, under the names: These fought and fell in the Great War 1914-1918. On a separate plaque at the lowest level: 1939-1945. In remembrance of those who fell in the Second World War. Below, under the names: God Receive Them. Christ Accept Them.
