About the memorial: The memorial was originally displayed at the secretarial offices of the society on Bridge Street, Bolton. It was unveiled in 1921. It shows the names of 37 Co-op. employees who died in WW1. The memorial was later updated to honour the 9 dead of WW2. This was done by reversing the centre panel of the memorial and re-carving the inscription. The original inscription which is still on the back of the memorial, recorded that 386 Co-op. employees returned from Active service in WW1.
