About the memorial: A timber Calvary with bronze Jesus figure. The bronze figure was reported as stolen March 2014. The statue was sculpted by Lady Desiree Welby, nee Copland-Griffiths, who also designed the rolls of honour either side of the cross. One roll lists the men who fought in the Great War. The other listed the women from the village and the doctor who served the hospital, which was set up in nearby Wingfield House, but this was lost 40 years ago.
