Raised quotation on the shaft, names on the plinth and raised inscription on the plaque. Black lettering with upper case. When the memorial was originally completed after 1918 there was a dispute between parishioners and it was not unveiled. By c 1956 it had become overgrown and hidden by trees, but the trees were then removed, repairs carried out and WW2 names added to the east panel. Unveiled 2 December.1956 by Mrs J Telfer of Glencaple- Glasgow Herald -3 December 1956-1918 War Memorial Unveiled- A war memorial erected at Caerlaverock, Dumfriesshire, in honour of the men and women from the parish who lost their lives in the First World War, was officially unveiled yesterday by Mrs J. Telfer of Glencaple. Because of a disagreement among parishioners when the memorial was completed, it was never unveiled and no remembrance ceremony ever took place. The memorial had become overgrown and hidden by trees, but early this year, with subscriptions raised in the parish, the trees were removed, repairs carried out, and the lay-out improved by a surrounding wall. The names of the Second World War dead were added to the east panel.
