About the memorial: Large square sandstone plinth surmounted by a bronze figure of kilted soldier with rifle. The figure is depicted looking off to the right and is without his jacket and has his shirt sleeves rolled up. Dedicatory metal plaques on three sides of the plinth. The memorial is set within a paved area that is enclosed by low metal railings, by the Park gates. Erected in 1922 . A local newspaper (Cambuslang Advertiser) reported that it had been decided to depart from the usual custom of inscribing the names of the 450 (approx) fallen on the memorial as the monument did not lend itself to such a large inscription. The paper also commented that the figure was intended to represent the Spirit of Heroic Youth. A later plaque was added to honour those who fell in the Second World War.
