914 - 1918 PEARCE William. It may be this person. PIERCE, William Arthur, Acting Lance Corporal 6066, 2nd Border Regiment killed in action 16th May 1915. He was born at Welshpool, Denbighshire and lived at Lower Peaover, Knutsford The memorial has his date of death as the 12th June 1915. He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France CORK Christopher Private 21356 4th Grenadier Guards, died 12th March 1915. He was the son of Thomas and Mary of Allostock, Cheshire. He is commemorated on a screen wall in Streatham Park Cemetery, Surrey. He is also commemorated on the memorial at St Oswalds Church, Lower Peover, Cheshire they have the date of death as 15th March 1915 BELL Philip Oswald, Driver, Signaller 988, 149th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, County Palatine killed in action 10th May 1916 aged 19. He was the son of William and Alma of Lower Peover, Knutsford, Cheshire. He is at rest in Suzanne Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France EYRES John, Private 18345, 10th Cheshire Regiment killed in action 21st May 1916 aged 17. He was the son of William and Lucy of Crown Lane, Lower Peover, Cheshire. He is at rest in Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St.Eloi, France GREGORY George, Private 31581, 2nd South Lancashire Regiment died 21st October 1916 aged 26. He was the son of George and Elizabeth Gregory of Back Lane, Plumbley, Cheshire. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 28th October 1914 in the Cheshire Yeomanry and posted to the army reserve. He embarked Southampton on the 20th September 1916 and disembarked on the 21 at Rouen. He was then transferred to 6, Infantry Base Depot, Rouen, the same day, 21st again on the 21st he was put on a compulsorily transfer to 4th Reserve Training Force, South Lancs and on the 29th posted to the 2nd South Lancs, and on the 1st October 1916 joined the 2nd battalion in the field. On the 21st October 1916 he was killed in action at Grandecourt, France BESWICK Albert, Lance Corporal 15089, 8th Border Regiment killed in action on the 21st October 1916 aged 21. He was born at Lower Peover, lived at Bromley Moor, Cheshire and enlisted at Kendal. He was the son of Albert and Ann who lived at Plumbley Moor. He is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France KENT Harry Private 31520, South Lancashire Regiment, formerly 1363, Cheshire Yeomanry died of wounds 21st October 1916. He lived at Plumbley and was the son of Henry William and Sarah Ann of Plumbley. He is at rest in Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery, Extension, Somme, France HARROP Alfred, Private 17478, 9th Cheshire Regiment. died in England on the 12th March 1917 aged 19.. He was born at Allostock to Alfred and Mary of Lower Peover. The memorial has his date of death as the 20th March 1917. He is at rest in Northwich Cemetery, Cheshire BARBER Thomas E died 25th May 1917. No 'T' or 'T.E'. Barber died on this date. It may be this person. Private 12/3908 Thomas Edward BARBER killed in action 17th September 1916 aged 28. He lived with his brother William Henry Barber, who was his next of kin at Ongarue, New Zealand. Prior to enlistment he was a bushman. He embarked from Wellington, New Zealand on the 1st April 1916 bound for Suez, Egypt with the a Company, 11th Reinforcement Auckland Infantry Battalion. He was the son of William and Emma of Goostry, (which is in the parish of Lower Peover) Cheshire His brother William Henry also served with the New Zealand Infantry. He is commemorated on the New Zealand Memorial, Caterpillar Valley, Somme, France HARROP Frederick James, (memorial has James) Private 36585, 6th South Staffordshire Regiment died at Mesopotamia 25th May 1917 aged 19. He was the son of Samuel and Bessie of Allstock, Cheshire. He is at rest in Basra War Cemetery, Iraq DUTTON William Henry, Driver W/4453, A Battery 122nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery died 21st August 1917 aged 27. He was the son of Mr F Dutton of Allstock, Knutsford. He is at rest in Canada Farm Cemetery, Belgium LOMAS William Harrison, Private 31592, South Lancashire Regiment, formerly 1210, Cheshire Yeomanry, He died at No2 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, Poperinghe, France of the 27th August 1917. he was born at Manchester and lived at Knutsford and his personal effects went to Percy Lomas, a calico painter BELL John Thomas Lance Corporal 15488 10th Cheshire Regiment killed in action 24th March 1918. He was born in 1895 Lach Dennis, Knutsford, Cheshire to George and Elizabeth of the 'Firs' Plumbley.and and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up at Northwich on the 7th September 1914. He embarked on the 25th September 1915 at Southampton for France. On the 8th July 1916 he reported sick and was treated at 67 Field Ambulance and the same day to 59, Field Ambulance. On the 10th July transferred to 30, Casualty Clearing Station and from there on the 13th July he was sent to England for treatment on Hospital Ship, Western Australia suffering from Myalgia On the 14th July he was admitted to the 2nd Western General Hospital, Vernon Park, Manchester. His home address was given as Over. After he was discharged for war service he returned to France from Southampton on the 8th February 1917 and disembarked at Rouen the next day, 9th. He was posted to the 11th Cheshire Regiment the same day on then posted to the 10th battalion on the 24th February 1917. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 1st January 1918 and was killed in action on the 24th March 1918 HULSE John, Private 142980, 25th Machine Gun Corps, Infantry, formerly 243692 Cheshire Regiment, killed in action 12th April 1918 aged 19. He was the son of John and Lydia of Free Green, Over Peover, Cheshire. He is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium TICKLE George, Private 61275, 18th Welsh Regiment killed in action 13th April 1918 He was born and lived at Lower Peover He was the son of Henry and Margaret of Fox Cover, Lower Peover. He is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium. Some notes from remains of his army record. He joined up on the 17th December 1916 aged 18, Date of birth, 19th December 1898, lived with his parents at Fox Cover and was employed as a farm horseman. He was mobilised to the depot , embarked after training from Southampton 7th December 1917, disembarked at Havre the next day, 18th, and was reported missing presumed killed in action with the 18th battalion on the 13th April 1918 CORK Thomas Private 40764 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers, formerly 32433 Training Reserve, killed in action 13th May 1918. He was born at Plumley, and lived in Lower Peover both in Cheshire and was the son of Thomas and Hannah. In 1911 he was working as a railway platelayer He is at rest in Cinq Rues British Cemetery, Hazebrouck, Franc HULSE Herbert Private 65328, 1st Northumberland Fusiliers, formerly 39425, East Lancs Regt, killed in action 23rd August 1918. He was born Allostock Cheshire in 1899 to William and Sarah who in 1911 were at Allostock. The memorial has his date of death as 21st August 1918 He is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France BURGESS Charles, Captain, Royal Field Artillery killed in action at Tilloy, Cambrai on the 11th October 1918 aged 29. He was born in 1889 at Plumbley and was the son of Charles and Sarah of Westholme, Lower Peover, Knutsford, Cheshire. He also lived at 14, Bridge Street, Manchester The memorial has his date of death as the 1st October 1918. However there is this person listed BUCKLEY, Joseph, Gunner 981599, 76 (Shropshire Yeomanry) Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery died 9th July 1944. He was the son of Richard and Annie of Lower Peover, Cheshire. He is at rest in Foiano Della Chiana War Cemetery, Italy
