About the memorial: White stone obelisk, with crest and 2 small bronze plaques, set on square plinth at head of further block with plaque marking parson who presented the memorial to Islington. See below comment from IWM War Memorial Archive entry 2004: Islington Council Environment and Conservation Department stated that the memorial is in a poor condition and is likely to be removed and replaced as part of the Islington Green Regeneration Project. 2005: To prevent the memorial being demolished, the War Memorials Trust applied to get the memorial listed by English Heritage in November but the case was turned down. 2006: The War Memorials Trust appealed against the decision to turn down the listing application for the memorial but the memorial was demolished before the appeal process was completed. Islington Council intends to erect a new memorial as a replacement to commemorate those killed in all conflicts. A design has already been chosen and it should be erected sometime in 2007. The new memorial has a separate entry 131228
