Can you help?

In 2018, WMT gave a grant towards this war memorial. As it has been a number of years since the grant was given, we would like an up-to-date condition survey and photographs to be added to this war memorial record. Can you help?

Type: Non freestanding
Location: Internal
Setting: Inside a building - public/private
Description: Board/Plaque/ Tablet
Materials:
  • Metal Brass
Lettering: Incised
Conflicts:
  • Second World War (1939-1945)
About the memorial: The war memorial plaque commemorating the fallen of the Second World War was removed from St Andrews Erskine Church in Dunfermline about 20 years ago when the congregation moved out, and has been in storage at the premises of the Co-operative Funeral Care Service in Dewar Rd, Dunfermline, ever since. St Andrew's Church united with Erskine Church in 1974. This medium-sized heavy brass plaque measures about 600mm by 400mm. It is very soiled and tarnished, but it appears on initial inspection to be a cast brass plaque with letters and design elements standing proud above the background, rather in the style of a cast bronze plaque. However, it cannot be excluded that the plaque was created from solid brass by a machining process. The plaque records the names of 11 men who fell in World War 2. It is designed to be fixed to a wall or to a timber backing with large brass countersunk screws.
