About the memorial: Memorial formed by two brass plaques for WW1 and WW2 respectively mounted on a wooden backboard. Incised inscription in black lettering Flags of France, America and Britain depicted in the centre of the Left and Right hand sides of the WW1 Plaque. Incised columns supporting narrow pediment depicted on the WW1 plaque. Plain line border to the WW2 plaque. The memorial commemorates the Kirkcudbright United Free Church. The Church became St Mary's between the wars before the building was converted to flats and the memorial moved to St Cuthbert's, the Parish Church. The Scotsman, Monday, 28 June 1920: Yesterday a brass memorial was unveiled in Kirkcudbright United Free Church to thirty men connected with the congregation, who fell in the war. The unveiling ceremony was performed by Provost Miller, and the sermon was preached by the Rev. G. J. Jeffrey.
