About the memorial: Slate Tablet within a sandstone surround. When originally installed in 2004 this was to be just a memorial to the Colonels of the King’s Own Border Regiment, the successor to the Border Regiment. In the monument area on the west wall. However when the KOBR was subsumed into the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment in 2006 that line of Colonels came to a conclusion. It was therefore decided to use the space to create a record of VC winners in the Border Regiment and its predecessor regiments- the 34th & 55th Foot.
