About the memorial: Unveiled 23 June 2014. Memorial to 13 crew. On the 23 June 1944 three Lancaster aircraft took off from RAF Coningsby on a training sortie to practice formation flying. Tragically two of the aircraft, numbers ME625 and ND981 collided midair causing both to spin out of control and crash at Cloot House Farm on Deeping Fen. Sergeant Coman had a miraculous escape, parachuting to safety as his aircraft broke up. The rest of the two crews were all killed: See WMO/288929 for a display at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre which includes an identical plaque.
