About the memorial: Bronze Plaques- centre dedication panel, with 4 names panels- 2 to each side. This was part of a complex memorial scheme. The Scheme included a Platform 28 feet 6 inches x 13 feet 9 inches x 1 feet 3 inches high at the west end of the Assembly Hall, made of oak, 4 pews for the masters, two chairs, 6 forms for the prefects, a prayer desk and a lectern. It is not known how much of the scheme (apart from the plaques) still survives at the School. The intention was to create a focus and venue for Daily Prayers at the School. The Scheme was designed by the School Architect-Mr H E Ayris, but he died before the funding had been raised. It was then taken on voluntarily by Mr Percy Dalton ARIBA, the then City Architect who continued it after his retirement. The woodwork was done by Messrs T Lawson of Carlisle. The oak was originally donated by a friend of the School, but that was found not to be suitable, so Japanese oak had to be purchased. That caused a near 18 month delay in the scheme which cost a total of £1,400. That scheme originally included the 'Record of Service'. That is now at Carlisle Archives (not the School) so has been taken to it's own report (WMO/293184). Much of the detail above is taken from file DS4/14/20 at Carlisle Archives.
