About the memorial: Although only the initials are given, this sundial was given by the Sir Richard and Lady Cynthia Graham of Netherby Hall (the church was built in 1776 as their estate church) for the safe return from war of two of the sons of Sir Richard & Lady Cynthia Graham. These were Lt-Col Sir Fergus Frederick Graham (10 Mar 1893-1 Aug 1978 DL, KBE, 5th Baronet from 26 Aug 1932 and Lieut Richard Preston Graham-Vivian MC (10 Aug 1896-30 Sep 1979). The name change to add the Vivian (maiden name of his wife) was by Royal Licence in 1929. He was Bluemantle Pursuivant from 1933-1946, Windsor Herald 1947-1966 and Earl Marshal’s Secretary 1954-1961. He was also a Fellow of the Zoological Society.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
