About the memorial: The Memorial Hall at Parkend was built in memory of those from the village who served in the Great War. The building was previously a warehouse, owned by Mr George Jones of Coleford, who generously donated the it in 1919. It was opened by Lord Bledisloe on July 23rd 1920. The plaque to the right of the entrance doors commemorates the men who lost their lives in WWI. The hall was later rededicated to include those who also served in WWII. The Roll of Honour plaque, immediately left of the doors, lists villagers who took part in that conflict (including those who served in the Home Guard), while the plaque to the left of the doors re-lists those who were killed in action.
