About the memorial: Silver Ciborium ( a vessel used for the storage of altar breads/wafers at the Mass) with an information board about it in the Church. "The memorial, which consists of a silver ciborium, decorated with carbuncles, amethysts and agates, and inscribed with panels of thistle and rose, and inscribed on the bowl are the names of eight men" . A notice on the north wall of the church has the list of names that is also on the ciborium.. The Ciborium is kept in the Church Safe. Dedicated c 8 January 1922 by the Bishop of Argyll and the Isles, Cameron of Lochiel, congregation and representatives of principal public bodies of the town and district.- see The Scotsman 10 January 1922

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

The information board starts with- THE GREAT WAR/1914 - 1918/The men from the Congregation of the St. Andrew's Episcopal / Church, Fort William, who made the supreme sacrifice in The / Great War of 1914 - 1918, are commemorated on a panel of / a silver ciborium which was presented to the church after the / war. The ciborium is still in regular use in the church./ [As I have not been able to see the actual Ciborium I cannot be sure if this is the full inscription, but this is what the information board states that it is] [names]/ DILEAS DU BAS/ FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH
