About the memorial: UK & US Armed Forces: The memorial is situated in a corner of the Anglo-American playing fields, adjacent to the Bridge End Garden in Saffron Walden. The memorial is separated from the playing fields by a circular beech hedge. Within the circular beech hedge there is a brick memorial bearing 26 white stone plaques bearing the names of the dead. At the centre of the memorial is a further plaque bearing the inscription beneath.

"In Honoured Memory of the Officers and Men of the 65th Fighter Wing of the United States Army Air Force and the Men and Women of the Borough of Saffron Walden who gave their lives in the Defence of Freedom 1939 - 1945". Individual plaques commemorate the following groups: Debden 4th Fighter Group Boxted 56th Fighter Group 355th Fighter Group 361st Fighter Group 479th Fighter Group Borough of Saffron Walden.
