About the memorial: The Duchess of Abercorn unveiled this memorial on 25 November 1904 in High street where it remained until 1964, when it was considered as a traffic hazard and resited to Drumragh Avenue. In grey granite , it is a memorial to the men of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers who fell in the Boer War 1899 - 1902. The central pedestal supports a bronze angelic figure with support on either side bearing a seated bronze angelic figure by Sidney March . The Copper casts with names are by Elkington and Co Sculptor: Sydney March

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

To commemorate the gallant conduct of the Royal Inniskillings Fusiliers in the Boer War 1899, 1900-1-2. This monument is erected by their many friends and admirers in this their native Regimental district and elsewhere. To all the officers, NC Officers, and men of the regiment who lost their lives during that arduous campaign in the hope that those who succeeded there may cherish dearly the splendid achievements of their predecessors and endeavour on all occasions to be worthy of their grand inheritance, formally called the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers South African War Memorial
