About the memorial: Pictish stone see Links for further info and photos. Reverse side depicts a battle scene. At the top is a mounted Pictish warrior giving chase to a Northumbrian horseman with a helmet and norse-guard who has thrown away his sword and shield. At the centre are three Pictish foot-soldiers in battle order about to attack a Northumbrian warrior with nose-guard and raised spear. At the bottom are a pair of warriors charging towards each other, the Pict on the left and Northumbrian (with helmet and noseguard) on the right. A third man, believed to be the Northumbrian king, Ecgfrith, lies dead while a raven gnaws at his head. On front of stone is carved a celtic cross. There is a metal plaque, provided by Historic Scotland. A memorial commemorating the 1300 year snnoiversary is outside the churchyard (WMO 283459).

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
