About the memorial: A Portland Stone tablet, approx 6 ft * 4 ft erected in 1920 to commemorate 43 Members of the Bible Class who died in WW I and 222 Members who served. An additional 3 names were added to commemorate WW II casualties

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

St John's Men's Bible Class (founded Nov 14th 1880)/ This memorial was erected by the Class in commemoration of the undermentioned/ members who served in His Majesty's forces in the Great War for liberty, freedom, and/ righteousness, 1914 - 1919/ Rev. W.H. Mackinnon (vicar), president/ James Eldridge, leader/ H. Lower, Hon. Sec./ W. Whittington, Hon Treas./ Sacred to the memory of those who fell :/ Sons of this place, let this of you be said/ That you who live are worthy of your dead,/ Those gave their lives, that you who1 live may reap/ A richer harvest, ere you fall asleep./ [43 names]/ The names of the 222 other members who served are recorded below./[names]
