About the memorial: Wimblington playing field gates are a memorial to the dead of both World Wars. The wrought iron gates have a curved embellished top and include the words 'War Memorial Playing Field'. On the piers are 3 plaques. The field was bought by the parish in 1953. Comments: Memorial playing field cost £520. £200 was donated by the National Playing Fields Association and spent on a children's recreation area. The Royal British Legion provided £162 for the gates. A further £560 was spent on general improvements to the field. Memorial cost £539 14s 6d in 1953. The field is owned by the Parish Council and a Declaration of Trust made on 6th day of September 1957 states: 'at a duly constituted meeting of the Parish Council held on the 26th day of August 1957 it was resolved that the said land should be dedicated to the use of the general public for ever as a playing field or recreation ground'. That 'The Parish council hereby declares that the Parish Council and its successors in title to the said land shall stand possessed of the said land upon trust to hold the same as a playing field or recreation ground for the use of the general public in perpetuity'. The gates were refurbished in 2020 at a cost of £7710.00 which included adding additional feature arches installed above each of the pedestrian side gates fixed to the brickwork piers with retaining straps to improve stability.
