About the memorial: A monument to john Hampden who was fatally wounded here. Two-stepped square base surmounted by a large square sectioned column-like plinth, overhanging collar & large square sectioned tapering obelisk. Family coat of arms carved within a circular relief on the front face. On another face is Hampden's name with a portrait in relief. The south side has a list of subscribers, and the north, the incised inscription. An arrow-headed, primary iron perimeter fence is attached, angled outwards, between the lower & upper step interface. The whole memorial is further enclosed by a vertical alternating spiked & split-headed spiked iron railing fence. all located on a grassed triangular road junction island.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
