About the memorial: Calvary dedicated to those from Fernhurst who lost their lives during the First and Second World War. the ww1 memorial, abutting the public road and indented into the grounds of st margaret of antioch's’s church, is constructed from natural portland limestone and consists of an ornately carved hooded crucifix on a tall octagonal shaft, plinth and two stepped base; all set in a concave walled, paved enclosure with steps to the road at the front and to the chuchyard at the rear. It is 16 feet in height with a base 8 feet at its widest. on the wall is mounted a large natural limestone tablet commemorating those who died in ww2.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

on the socket stone at the base of the plinth and on riser of the top step of the base is incised the dedication inscription: '1914 1919/to the glory of god and in/ memory of the men of fernhurst/ who gave their lives in the great war/ into thy hands we commend/ them for thou hast redeemed/ them o lord thou god of truth/' the later added, limestone ww2 tablet has its own dedication 'also in honoured memory/ of the men of fernhurst who died/ in the second world war 1939 - 1945/'
