About the memorial: A huge wooden panelled memorial at the rear of the church which houses the 'golden book' of remembrance with the names of those of the city of Hull who fell in WW1. However, families had to pay two guineas to have a name included so it is not an exhaustive list of the fallen. The words are inscribed in gold lettering in the central panel with the book in a glass topped case below it. At the top and sides and the names of all the battles of WW1 in which Hull men fought.

'To the Glory of God and to the honoured memory of those men from this city who fell in the war during August 4th 1914 to November 11th 1918. To vindicate justice for all nations and freedom for the people they endured hardship, disease and danger in all climes and by their death they founded living hope for perpetual peace and concord. Their names are remembered below that their memory may not fade. (Followed by some words in Greek) There name liveth for ever more.'
