About the memorial: Major Hewetson was killed in a flying accident near Fargo Wood in July 1913. The plains around Stonehenge were the site of one of the UK's first airfields. Major Hewetson was undertaking a test flight for his aviator's certificate in a Bristol Coanda when he crashed.
