About the memorial: A very remote church - not in the village but signposted from the Lymington road. One of the plaques bears a special reference to HMS Hood - there is a shrine to this ship inside the church. It is worth making the point to visitors to this church that the IWM Archive cites no less than seven memorials inside the church which do not qualify as war memorials as they are of members of the armed forces who did not die in action but in many cases lived to a ripe old age. The person who made these entries did not understand the definition of a war memorial.
